The EPA Academia Summer School continued this year with its fourth edition. It took place 29 May – 1 June 2014 in Strasbourg, under the auspices of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr Thorbjørn Jagland. This now annual summer event has been organised by the EPA since 2011 for young psychiatrists up to two years after their specialisation. Additionally, this 4th edition took place under the Year of the Brain label, as it helped contribute to the YotB’s goals.
Twenty-six scholars from 20 countries were selected by the Jury on the basis of their curricula vitae, current employment and intentions concerning future work. The topic of “Comorbidity between mental and physical disorders” was the heart of the EPA Summer School, led by a renowned faculty: Prof. Sartorius, Prof. Lauber, Prof. Diefenbacher, Dr. Parmentier and Dr. Hanon.
Different lectures and case study examination in small groups were carried out with the participants to enable them to develop their knowledge of comorbidity. These four days of the EPA Summer School in Strasbourg gave the Scholars an opportunity not only to learn about comorbidity between mental and physical disorders, but also to exchange on both professional and personal levels in a multicultural environment.
