Background
Considering the growing range of psychiatric disorders in terms of incidence and variation and their association with the lifestyle disorders facing humans today, EPA recognised the need for a platform for the exchange of knowledge and discussion on the latest trends in psychiatry. The situation in India was a strong factor in recognising this need.
In India psychiatric disorders, particularly depression, anxiety and schizophrenia, are estimated to account for over 5-10% of its disease burden. India is also considered as the capital of the world’s diabetes population and heart patients. Due to the association of these disorders with Mental Illnesses, managing them became a real challenge.
With this in mind, EPA took the initiative of creating a knowledge exchange platform between the experts of Europe and India that contributed to an enrichment of knowledge, overcoming common challenges faced in practice and the selection of various treatment options to tackle a spectrum of psychiatric disorders.
