Why an Early Career Psychiatrists’ Committee?
Early career psychiatric professionals have to adapt to rapid changes in modern health systems in various fields such as ethics, politics and economics. This presents additional challenges as in shaping their professional identity. To face these aspects and to cover the growing international character of professional living, the Early Career Psychiatrists Committee of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA) aims to give young professionals a voice in the evolution of training, research and practice standards to enable them to take influence on their own future and career progress.
The Early Career Psychiatrists Committee established a Programme at the annual European Congress of Psychiatry organised by EPA, including special symposia, happy hour meetings, interactive continuing medical education courses, get-together events and meet-the-experts-sessions where young professionals have the possibility to learn from highly achieved European leaders by communicating with them in an informal way.
To support the scientific offspring, special prizes on psychiatric Research and on Prevention are awarded to early career psychiatrists.
In addition a Scholarship Programme was introduced in 2007 to ensure the continuity of professional support to highly promising trainees and to start building European networks of which the scholars can take advantages in a life-long way.
