EPA offers membership to European and International psychiatrists under various membership categories: Ordinary, International, Emeritus, Fellows, Honorary or Corporate.
1. Individual members
Individual membership is restricted to those who are psychiatrists or scientists working in the field of psychiatric research.
Ordinary members
They are citizens or residents of a European country (i.e., a country belonging to the European Region of the WHO) or are licensed to work in a European country. They have the right to vote in the General Assembly and can be elected to the Board.
The “Emeritus” title can be conferred upon request to Ordinary members officially retired from assigned duties. A fifty percent discount on annual fees is applied.
International members
They are psychiatrists and psychiatric researchers who are not citizens or residents of a European country, or who are not authorised to practice in a European country, may become International members.
They do not have the right to vote in the General Assembly or being elected at the Board but may attend them as observers.
Fellows
The status of Fellow can be conferred on EPA Ordinary members, paying regularly their membership fee, recommended by an EPA Ordinary Member and who meet either of the following criteria:
- they have made significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge about, yet not limited to, risk factors, pathogenesis, diagnosis, classification, treatment or prevention of mental disorders, or to the development of psychiatric practice or services, including education;
- they have made an outstanding contribution to the fulfilment of the aims of the EPA, as documented by a series of successful activities promoting significantly the goals of the Association.
Honorary members
Honorary membership may be conferred on any Ordinary member or Fellow who has excelled in his/her service to the EPA. Honorary members shall not pay a fee.
2. Donors
Donor membership may be conferred on any natural or legal person having made a special contribution to the development of the Association through one or more donations. Donors can attend the General Assembly, yet are not entitled to vote. Donors shall not pay a fee.
3. Corporate members
Corporate members are the national psychiatric associations of Europe.
