Mission
The EPA section “Schizophrenia” is aimed to promote high standards in research, training and clinical practice in its field of interest and to fight the stigma related to the diagnosis of schizophrenia.
Objectives:
1. To disseminate updated knowledge relevant to etiopathogenesis, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia
2. To favour cultural exchanges and cross-fertilization among different approaches to the study of this complex diagnostic entity
3. To promote early diagnosis and identification of at risk subjects
4. To raise standards of care
5. To address ethical issues in research and clinical care involving people with schizophrenia
6. To identify unmet needs and means to address them
7. To develop and deliver training courses for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development
8. To compare clinical service, training, research and policy across Europe
Activities:
Section activities aimed to accomplish Section’s objectives
1. Organizing symposia and workshop within EPA and other European Congresses devoted to the Section topics
2. Promoting the creation of research networks
3. Collaborating with other EPA sections, in particular Psychopathology, Psychopharmacology, Psychotherapy and Neuroimaging, with EPA Academy and with EPA working group on Ethics
4. Collaborating with the WPA section on Schizophrenia
5. Developing training courses on “hot” topics in schizophrenia
6. Designing surveys aimed at comparing service, training, research and policy across Europe
7. Contributing to EPA publications on schizophrenia research and clinical care
