EPA organised 1st Knowledge Exchange Programme in India
Considering the expanding gamut of Psychiatric disorders in terms of Incidence and variation and its association with the lifestyle disorders facing common man today, EPA sets a platform for the first time in India for the exchange of Knowledge and discussion of latest trends in Psychiatry.
It has been estimated that psychiatric disorders account for over 5-10% of the disease burden in India, Depression Anxiety and Schizophrenia being at the pinnacle. Moreover India is being considered as the capital of world Diabetes population and heart patients too. Recent studies have found high association of these disorders with Mental Illnesses and hence pose a challenge in managing these disorders due to increased morbidity and complications.
EPA took the initiative of creating a knowledge exchange platform between the experts of Europe and India that contributed in enrichment of knowledge, overcoming common challenges faced in practice and selection of various treatment options to tackle a spectrum of psychiatric disorders.
The programme was held with the institutional support of Lupin Ltd. from 1-2 May 2010 at Hotel Le Meridian, Delhi.

The initiative was a great success with more than 400 participants. Continuation for the Knowledge Exchange Programme is already planned next year as the 2nd Knowledge Exchange Programme is scheduled to be held in spring 2011 in Mumbai, India.
