Ordinary members
Entitlement to ordinary membership shall be restricted to those who:
are citizens or residents of a European country (i.e., a country belonging to the European Region of the WHO) or are licensed to work in a European country
are psychiatrists or scientists working in the field of psychiatric research
Ordinary members have the right to vote in the General Assembly and can be elected to the Board.
Fellows
The status of Fellow can be conferred on EPA Ordinary members, paying regularly their membership fee, recommended by an EPA Ordinary Member and who meet either of the following criteria:
they have made significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge about, yet not limited to, risk factors, pathogenesis, diagnosis, classification, treatment or prevention of mental disorders, or to the development of psychiatric practice or services, including education;
they have made an outstanding contribution to the fulfilment of the aims of the EPA, as documented by a series of successful activities promoting significantly the goals of the Association.
Fellows have the right to vote in the General Assembly and can be elected to the Board.
Honorary members
Honorary membership may be conferred on any Ordinary member or Fellow who has excelled in his/her service to the EPA. Honorary members have the right to vote in the General Assembly and can be elected to the Board.
Nominations for honorary membership shall be submitted by the Secretary General to the Executive Committee, which shall present them to the Board for consideration and submission to the General Assembly for a decision.
International members
Psychiatrists and psychiatric researchers who are not citizens or residents of a European country, or who are not authorised to practice in a European country, may become International members. The application and approval procedures are identical to those applicable to Ordinary members.
International members do not have the right to vote in the General Assembly or being elected at the Board but may attend them as observers.
Benefactor members
Benefactor membership may be conferred on any natural or legal person having made a special contribution to the development of the Association through one or more donations. Benefactor members can attend the General Assembly, yet are not entitled to vote. Any member of the EPA may submit an application as candidate or propose a candidate for benefactor membership to the Secretary General, who shall submit the application to the Executive Committee and the Board for consideration and submission to the General Assembly for a decision.
Corporate members
Corporate members are public or private bodies which establish a longstanding collaboration with the Association and commit themselves to support regularly its activities.
They can send an observer to the General Assembly, who is not entitled to vote.
Corporate members are not eligible for the Board.
