09.10.15 – October 10 is World Mental Health Day. It started as an annual activity of the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992. The 2015 initiative, based on the theme “Dignity in mental health”, is aimed at “raising awareness of what can be done to ensure that people with mental health conditions can live with dignity, through human rights oriented policy and law, training of health professionals, respect for informed consent to treatment, inclusion in decision-making processes, and public information campaigns”.

The European Psychiatric Association (EPA) endorses the initiative and its theme, which are both fully in line with the Declaration on Quality of Psychiatry and Mental Health Care in Europe adopted by EPA in 2013, stating that the level of civilization of a society can best be measured by the quality of care that it offers to its children, the elderly and all individuals vulnerable because of impairments due to illness or other reasons.

Please visit the World Federation for Mental Health website for more information about this year’s initiative.
