Prof. Umberto Volpe contributes to EU focus group on telemedicine in mental health

The EPA is proud to share that Prof. Umberto Volpe, EPA Secretary for Sections and Editor-in-Chief of European Psychiatry, took part in a high-level focus group on the impact of telemedicine on the provision of mental health services in the EU. The initiative is part of a study on the applicability of existing Union legislation to telemedicine services, commissioned by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) and carried out by ICF.

The focus group, held online on 10 September 2025, brought together experts from across Europe, including representatives of health professionals, civil society, and research organisations. Discussions centred on validating and refining the study’s findings to date, ensuring that recommendations reflect the realities of mental health care delivery through digital tools.

Prof. Volpe contributed his expertise by providing feedback on draft sections of the study and highlighting key issues relevant to psychiatric practice. His input helped strengthen the evidence base on how telemedicine can be effectively integrated into mental health care across Europe.
