EPA-EUFAMI-GAMIAN-Europe Manifestos: a “Trilogue of Health” to advance Mental Health in Europe
On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the EPA unveiled its EU Election Manifesto. Intended as a testament to the EPA’s enduring commitment to advancing mental health care in Europe, the Manifesto outlines the EPA’s vision and objectives in view of the 2024 European elections, inviting MEPs to help harmonizing mental health care delivery, improving working conditions for the mental health workforce, promoting ethical standards, and fostering research and implementation of public mental health and prevention measures.
In the spirit of collaboration and collective action, the EPA is honoured to join hands with EUFAMI and GAMIAN-Europe. Together, the three organizations are amplifying each other’s voices and advocating for policies that prioritize the well-being of individuals and families affected by mental health conditions.
EUFAMI’s manifesto emphasizes the crucial role of families in mental health care, urging aspiring MEPs to recognize and support family caregivers. By empowering families and amplifying their voices, the EU can help them ensure that the needs of individuals facing mental health challenges are met with compassion and understanding.
Similarly, GAMIAN-Europe’s manifesto calls for the establishment of a European Parliament Intergroup on Mental Health, recognizing the urgent need for robust mental health support systems. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing global challenges, GAMIAN-Europe emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive EU Mental Health Strategy, one that revolves around prevention, promotion, care, and cure.
At the heart of the collective efforts of the three organizations lies the idea of a Trilogue of Health, where clinicians, patients, and families come together to advocate for policies that promote mental health and ensure that it remains high in the EU agenda.
