Making mental health care a reality for all: EPA video on World Mental Health Day 2021

On 10 October, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day 2021, the European Psychiatric Association (EPA) has the privilege to present a video-message from its President, Prof. Peter Falkai and Mr Stelios Kympouropoulos, who is a Member of the EU Parliament (MEP) and a supporter of the MEP Alliance for Mental Health.

In their speeches, Mr Kympouropoulos and Prof. Falkai emphasise the need for reducing stigma and improving the accessibility of citizens to mental health care services, through proper investment and shared commitment.

The World Health Organisation states that “in all countries, the pandemic has had a major impact on people’s mental health. Some groups, including health and other frontline workers, students, people living alone, and those with pre-existing mental health conditions, have been particularly affected”. In order to raise awareness on the importance of mental health and on the accessibility to mental health care services the WHO released a communication toolkit with flyers that contain relevant information. More details and the WHO flyers can be found here.

Let’s work together to reduce stigma and discrimination around mental health and to make sure that high quality care is accessible to all!
