ABSTRACT

This webinar aims to provide clinicians with practical training on Gaming Disorder (GD), a newly recognized mental health condition included in the WHO’s ICD-11 under “disorders due to addictive behaviours.” Moderated by Alex Baldacchino (UK) and Sophia Achab (Switzerland), the session will feature international experts presenting on the definition, clinical assessment, comorbidities, and treatment options for GD.

Marc N. Potenza (USA) will open with an overview of the description, epidemiology, and diagnostic boundaries of GD, setting the foundation for understanding its place in ICD-11. Sophia Achab (Switzerland) will then focus on the diagnostic process and clinical assessment of GD, illustrating the use of the ICD-11 browser and practical guidance for clinical work. She will explore the common comorbidities observed in individuals with GD, including neurodevelopmental and other mental health conditions, and their implications for care. Finally, Laura Orsolini (Italy) will present on digital health and e-treatment options for GD, highlighting innovative, accessible, and evidence-based approaches.

The session will conclude with a clinical case discussion, where the audience will be invited to bring forward real-world questions to be addressed collectively with the panel.
