Next Generation Psychiatrist Awards
The Next Generation Psychiatrist Awards aim to recognize and support outstanding early career psychiatrists across the WHO Europe region. This prestigious programme highlights excellence in research, writing, academic engagement, and commitment to advancing psychiatry. The initiative promotes innovation and leadership in various psychiatric disciplines, fostering the next generation of mental health experts.
The EPA is pleased to announce that 5 exceptional early-career psychiatrists, each representing a distinct category, will be awarded individual prizes of €2,000 and an invitation to attend the 2026 EPA Congress, in recognition of their outstanding scientific profiles that demonstrate excellence, innovation, and commitment to the advancement of psychiatry.

Eligibility criteria :
- Be an early career psychiatrist (under 40 years old or within 5 years of completing specialist training).
- Work in a country within the World Health Organisation (WHO) Europe region.
Application and selection procedure
Only individual applications are welcome. Each candidate must submit the following documents in English :
- A short biosketch (maximum 2 pages) outlining academic degrees, current position, professional experience, research activities (participation and leadership roles), areas of interest, previous involvement in early-career associations, a list of publications from the last 5 years, a record of international and national congresses attended in the last 5 years, and any visiting experience at different host institutions.
- A short motivation essay (1 page) outlining the candidate’s background in one of the five categories described above and explaining how participation in the European Congress of Psychiatry has influenced their career development and professional growth.
- A reference letter signed by the candidate’s academic mentor.
Five Categories
Candidates must submit their application in one of the categories listed below:
- Clinical psychiatry
- Public mental health, social psychiatry and epidemiology
- Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments
- Psychopathology
- Brain and mental health in the lifespan, including child and adolescent psychiatry and old age psychiatry
Selection Committee
A Selection Committee will conduct a review of all applications based on the criteria outlined above. The Committee is composed of the EPA President, the Past President, the President Elect, the ECPC Chair, the Secretary General, the Secretary for Sections and the Secretary for Education.
