2025 Winner
Doctor Sophia Frangou was selected by the members of the jury as the 2025 winner of the EPA Constance Pascal – Helen Boyle Prize of €10,000 for Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in Working to Improve Mental Health Care in Europe.
Dr. Frangou trained at Maudsley and Bethlem Royal Hospitals in London, UK and obtained her PhD from the University of London. She is a Chair in Brain Health at the Department of Psychiatry, University of British Columbia and is also affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She previously held the post of Reader in Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London, UK. She is an editor-in-chief of European Psychiatry, the journal of the European Psychiatric Association, and associate editor of BJPsych Open. Dr. Frangou has published over 300 articles and has received numerous awards including the 2019 Colvin Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Mood Disorders Research from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation and the 2020 Educator Award from the Society of Biological Psychiatry.
