Council of NPAs Meetings 2017
EPA2017 – Florence
The EPA National Psychiatric Societies/Associations Council meeting, held during the EPA 2017 Congress in Florence was a great success, for several reasons. First, it was a well-attended meeting with 33 NPAs in attendance, and the participants showed an excellent level of participation and commitment. Secondly, this meeting introduced a number of changes in the functioning of the Council aimed at a greater involvement and participation of each society. These included the creation of working groups, implementation of teleconferences, and changes to the Statutes concerning the election procedures, which were later adopted during the General Assembly.
In addition, EPA President Silvana Galderisi presented her Presidential Action Plan for the next two years.
During the meeting elections were also held for the Council Steering Committee, resulting in the election of a new and committed team consisting of Tamas Kurimay (Chair, Hungary), Simavi Vahip (Vice-Chair, Turkey) and Pedro Varandas (Secretary, Portugal).
All meeting participants expressed their gratitude to Manuel Martin Carrasco, Council of NPAs Chair from 2015-2017 and Peter Falkai, Secretary for NPAs and former Chair, for their great and effective work on the Council and their contribution for the future changes of EPA. The new Steering Committee will continue to work along the former direction of the Council of NPAs, as well as within the strategic plan of the EPA President.
