The integration of psychosocial and pharmacological treatments in severe mental disorders

The 49th National Congress of the Italian Psychiatric Association (SIP) was held in Genoa from 12-15 October 2022.

The Congress brought together about 1,500 participants in three invited lectures, 21 main symposia, and 90 parallel sessions. A joint Symposium of the Italian Psychiatric Association and the Council of NPAs on ‘Integration of Treatments’ was held on Thursday 13 October, chaired by Professors Jerzy Samochowiec and Bernardo Carpiniello.

The issue of ‘Non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods in the treatment of negative symptoms’ was covered by Prof. Samochowiec, with Prof. Antonio Vita looking at ‘Integration of Cognitive and pharmacological treatments in Schizophrenia’. Prof Martina Rojnic Kuzman focused her speech on ‘The integration of psychosocial and pharmacological Interventions in severe mental disorders in Southeastern Europe’, with Prof. Carpiniello addressing the same topic with regard to Italy.

On Friday 14 October the President of the EPA, Prof. Peter Falkai, gave his invited lecture on ‘Research perspectives of European Psychiatry’.
