european psychiatric association

Message from EPA President Andrea Fiorillo

Dear Colleagues, dear Friends,

It is with great pride and gratitude that I step into my role as President of the European Psychiatric Association. Following in the footsteps of Geert Dom, I look forward to building on the momentum achieved over the past years, while also shaping a future that responds to the evolving needs of our community, our allied professions, and society at large.

The two years ahead will be guided by a vision grounded in scientific excellence, clinical relevance, and societal impact. During my Presidency, I will place a strong emphasis on six priority areas that are central to our collective mission.

Precision Psychiatry will take central stage, as we work towards more refined and tailored diagnostic and treatment approaches to bring research closer to real-world needs and applications.

We will also aim to promote the concept of Brain and Mental Health, with a strong focus on understanding the genetic, biological, and psychosocial determinants that shape mental health across the lifespan.

At the heart of this vision is the intersection of Mental Health with Lifestyle, Physical Health, and Multimorbidity. Psychiatry must continue to break down barriers, recognizing the whole person in their biological, psychological, and social complexity.

We will also reinforce our commitment on Public Mental Health, emphasizing prevention and the promotion of mental health and wellbeing from childhood through older age, which are key to building more resilient societies.

Another critical pillar of our work will address Stigma and Discrimination, with particular emphasis on protecting the mental health of vulnerable groups. Advocacy and inclusion must remain at the core of what we do.

Finally, we must rethink how and where treatment is delivered. Treatment Delivery and Settings of Care, including digital psychiatry, school and workplace-based interventions, will also feature among the priority areas of our Association.

I would like to warmly thank our staff, the Executive Committee, Board, Committees, Sections, National Psychiatric Associations, as well as our vibrant members’ community and partners across Europe and beyond. Together, we will ensure that Psychiatry continues to evolve, innovate, and advocate.

We will work on these areas with great energy, devotion and passion, and we will need the help of all of you to fulfil such an ambitious plan.

I look forward to the year ahead and to seeing many of you in person at one of our next meetings.

Kind regards,

Prof. Andrea Fiorillo
